Joomla Book Review

Book Review
I am excited to announce that I have been selected by Packt Publishing® to serve as a technical reviewer on an upcoming book on Joomla Extensions. Technical reviews (also called editorial and content reviews) are performed by individuals with technical knowledge or background. Reviewers assess the quality of the content in terms of its readability, communication of information, and suitability for the particular audience. This is the fourth book that I’ve reviewed and the first on technology and/or software. The previous books include:
  • Fundamentals of Corporate Finance (manuscript), Bodie, Merton, and Crawford, Prentice Hall®
  • Finance: Investments, Institutions, and Management, 2/e. Stanley G. Eakins, Addison-Wesley®

CCK at the Zoo

CCK at the Zoo

Over the last year I've posted a couple of articles comparing Drupal, Joomla, and Moodle. One of my criticisms of Joomla has been the lack of CCK and the ability to create and define content types. If you've worked with Joomla you know that the program provides one content type called "Articles". Read more »

Yeah Drupal Theme Clubs

What are theme clubs and are they safe investments?
Drupal Theme Club
Have you seen the Drupal® purchased theme providers (aka clubs) that are starting to emerge on the horizon? I am delighted to see growth in this under-developed segment of the Drupal® landscape. As we all know, Drupal® is known for it's brains and brawn and not for it's good looks. Great! Looks are much less important to the core of the program than aesthetics.

I recently received a question from a professional in Long Beach California who asks "Can I use a CMS like Joomla or Drupla to make a site searchable and easily updatable? Any suggestions?" My answer is YES! Drupal and Joomla are clearly great programs that make a site easy to update and search. Here are some thoughts.

Joomla Day S.F. 2008

Joomla Day S.F. 2008

I spent the day in Building 43 at GooglePlex in Mountain View for the 2nd annual Joomla Day in the Bay Area. The fine folks with the Bay Area Joomla user's group put together an energetic unconference that helped users, administrators, and developers better understand how to use the open source software, Joomla. Linux Expo

My first Linux Expo was informative and easy to navigate, much like a good database. I arrived in Los Angeles early Saturday to a full parking lot. That is usually a good indicator that an expo is going to be successful. Read more »

Joomla! Day West 2007

Joomla announcing 1.5 is coming soon.
Joomla! Day West 2007
Recently held in San Francisco Joomla! Day West 2007 was a great way for about 100 people to acquire new information on Joomla 1.5 and a great way to hook-up with Joomla resources. Here are some of my thoughts after the unconference: Allen Gunn flawlessly moderated the unconference.
