How often do people believe that where there is money, there is humanity? I think the belief is rare, but the reality is prevalent. It intrigues me that people constantly wish or strive for the cornucopia of monetary treasure, yet simultaneously curse and mistrust those who have it. Laura Scroggins reminds us that people motivate the dollar - people define their finances and their lives. Laura takes humanity to the bank.

Laura Scroggins is a teacher who leads by example. She dislikes the traditional route of teaching in favor of more creative learning solutions. Instead of learning by rote memorization terms and equations, we learned concepts to apply to our own unique investment situation, using any mathematical models as needed. Many of my peers also enjoyed this non-traditional approach, as they felt they were learning on a higher level than their other courses.

Personally, Laura is very approachable, and was able to find common ground with just about every student in the class. I feel this is a sign of a class that can rise to a high level of learning and efficiency. Along with many of my peers, I hope she stays part of the business department here at Humboldt State.

My experience with Laura Scroggins was in the classroom. She has a gift for effective communication and retaining attention, and can mold and transform normally dry subject matter into living relevant material. Her skill set as a professor is most likely only matched by her tangible experience in the financial sector, and I have no doubt whatsoever that she will be as invaluable in any position she chooses to hold now or in the future...as she was as my teacher.

My company decided to use the open source CMS, Drupal, for its online Resource Center. Navigating the world of a new software platform is always daunting, but especially under a tight deadline and with scant documentation. I looked for help and found it in Laura Scroggins. In a sea of possibilities, Laura helped determine the best solutions for the project requirements. She installed and configured modules and even helped with data entry to get the job done. She was efficient, available, and always exuded a calm and accommodating attitude. Further, when she felt that the project needed expertise beyond her capacity, she was willing to start the dialogue with others in the community who could help. The question I get asked about Laura is, "what can Laura do?" The answer I tell my friends, colleagues, work-mates, and family is, "what can't Laura do!" I've known Laura for a long time and everything she set's out to accomplish, she accomplishes. She has done so with an intellectual capacity that is astounding. Laura has a fantastic ability to problem solve. She is a wonderful communicator and teacher; she is a visionary and creative, she is a true leader.

Whether Laura is figuring out your financial problem, putting your portfolio together, fixing your software glitch, or helping you to figure out how to deal with your family's estate, death or divorce Laura is competent respectful and compassionate. For me, one of the most important qualities about Laura is that her heart is in the right place.

Laura Scroggins was so helpful when I was wanting to build my business on ebay. I sell product on ebay and wanted to create a website that was more attractive than what they offered. She found a way for me to add a website and blog at no cost and it is beautiful!

Another thing about Laura is that when she is driving in the car she come up with an idea and she calls me right away. Like I am having a yard sale and she suggested I photograph my stuff and then include the website in the ad. It didn't cost me a penny more and I was surprise how many people went to my site! I recently had the pleasure of having Laura as a professor at HSU. She has had a great impact on my educational experience. She made the classroom environment very easy to work with. She was very understanding to individual's wants and needs. She was very approachable and eager to assist with any problems that her students had. She decided to breech from the traditional classroom setting and provided each student with tasks that was to their educational benefit. I knew from my first interaction with Laura that she was going to be exceptional professor (I've never met a professor who walked around the room to shake every student's individual hand to introduce themself, that will be something I will never forget!)

I met Laura for the first time at Humboldt State University where she taught my Essentials of Finance class.

On the first day of class, Laura came into the classroom with an aura of dynamic energy and collected confidence. She greeted every student with eyecontact, a handshake and personable interest.
