Favicon for You!
Favicons are the coolest little brand identifier that are effortless to add to your Website. A Favicon is an acronym for Favorite Icon. It is a tiny image that is displayed in the address field of your browser. Look at the address field of your browser and you will see an image that proceeds the Web address. My lauramba! favicon is from a photograph that I took of some flowers that were grown near my home in California. They are a cool brand identifier.
Here are some quick notes about favicons:
- Crop images to best part of image
- Resize your image to 16 x 16px
- Save image as favicon.ico
- Upload to your site
- Clear your cache
To add to your Drupal Site: Go to admin/build/themes/settings area where it is known as the Shortcut icon. Special hint: the program creates a pesky little file that you may need to delete before you upload to the server. If you keep uploading your favicon, clear the cache, and the old favicon is still there - try this. Look at your server for a file with this path: your_theme_name_favicon.ico. Delete it, clear cache, and upload a new favicon.
If you are not using Drupal you load the file to the root directory on your server and add a bit of code to your site. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon for help.
